MIND MERIDIAN GUIDE

What is the pineal gland?

The pineal gland is a small neuroendocrine organ. Its best-established role is receiving information about the environmental light-dark cycle and producing melatonin in a rhythmic pattern.

The useful takeaway

Melatonin secretion normally rises during darkness and is widely used as a marker of circadian phase. In mammals, the suprachiasmatic nucleus is the dominant circadian pacemaker; the pineal gland participates through rhythmic melatonin secretion.

Research basis

Our foundational physiology pages rely on peer-reviewed and clinical-reference literature on pineal physiology, melatonin and calcification. See the sources below.

What this means for supplement claims

Established physiology is context, not automatic proof of a commercial product’s benefit. We look for evidence that matches the actual product, dose, population and claimed outcome.
